Turkey Dinner Postscript and Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who made it to the 5th Annual Turkey Extravaganza!

For my friends who were out of town or under the weather -- you were missed!

For the benefit of those who couldn't make it, for culinary history AND for fun, would each of you who brought food, please share your recipes so that they can be part of my October Turkey Dinner and Other Parties Blog?

For those of you who were here last night -- a special thank you: Without you:

  1. The tables and chairs would still be stacked (Vic and Sam);
  2. and later, the tables and chairs would still be standing, thus negating the very crucial work of the carpet cleaners who will come on Tuesday morning (Steve, Jack, Mark and others);
  3. There would have been no stop-gap cranberry sauce unearthed from the back of beyond in my pantry (RJ, who can add "archeologist" to his resume);
  4. There would have been no really good cranberry sauce, which (no surprise) kicked the canned cranberries to the curb (Steve);
  5. The very crucial home-made bread family would have been missing and we would not know of this recipe's special life-saving qualities -- we all believed, if only for a minute (Tim);
  6. There would have been neither super-sweet-dessert-quality sweet potatoes nor the superb, almost savory super smooth sweet potatoes (Dana and John);
  7. We would have been deprived of both buttery white mashed potatoes and fabulous garlic mashed potatoes, surely a cause for the event to have been closed down by the Dreaded Dinner Police (Vic and Janine);
  8. There would have been no beet salad to win over the "I'm not a fan of beets" crowd (Sheldyn);
  9. We would not know about what I will always call "Egyptian Honeymoon Noodles," for which there is a rising tide of demand for the recipe (Anita);
  10. No one would have ever heard of Fig & Port Ice Cream, truly the Fig Newton For Deserving Grownups (Michael);
  11. We would have had to petition for Pear and Apple Pie (which was great for breakfast, thank you, Mark);
  12. We would not have wanted to add the recipe for the Creamy Ginger Snap bars to our personal recipe collections (Karen);
  13. There would have been no new wine because I forgot to buy it (Bridgid & RJ, Erin, Cynthia and Tim and others, I'm sure and I apologize for missing you);
  14. And thank you for cheering for the ever-popular Spinach Balls and for the new Apple Sorbet and for the Apple Jam & Chevre pinwheels, which, along with the recipe for the Caramel Apple Jam, will appear on the Turkey Dinner blog, cross-posted to the now "old blog" ( http://susan-cooks.blogspot.com/ )

The Spinach Ball recipe can be found here:http://susan-cooks.blogspot.com/2007/01/spinach-balls-party-food-from-your.htmlAgain, thank you to everyone!

And remember -- there will always be another Turkey.
